File this away under news that could have been interesting but Special Teams/Recruiting Coordinator Shane Beamer interviewed with Mississippi State this past week as a potential candidate for co-defensive coordinator. Beamer once coached at Mississippi State before heading to USC. Miss. State's DC Manny Diaz left to take the DC job at the University of Texas.

Chris Clark of GamecockCentral.com has reported this news earlier today on the radio about Beamer and his potential deflection. Some Gamecock fans could have been happy if he had left because they felt his special teams were under-performing as a whole. I could see some argument to that. We're one of the worst return teams in the SEC. However, from a recruiting standpoint, it would have killed South Carolina to lose Beamer at this stage of the game. He's vital to USC's success in the recruiting area and has done a fantastic job there helping to bring in more and more top notch talent.
