South Carolina just wrapped up it's big recruiting weekend with many commitments in town for their official visits and a few others who have yet to commit. One of those recruits decided he found his home and plans to be in Columbia in the near future. Well that is if we can keep him away from Major League Baseball.
Ahmad Christian committed to South Carolina this afternoon after making his official visit to Columbia. Christian is a name that's been on the USC recruiting board but got some renewed interest from the Gamecocks with the recent deflection of Thomas Finnie. This may be a blessing as Christian appears to be a fine athlete and looks like an excellent prospect for the Gamecocks secondary. The problem is the young man is a phenomenal baseball player and could be a high-round draft pick in the MLB draft. He may not make it to Columbia if the money is right. If he does though, both Steve Spurrier and baseball coach Ray Tanner will be thrilled.
Christian is a 3-star prospect in the Rivals.com database and stands 5'10" and weighs 195 pounds. He had offers from schools like Auburn, Tennessee, UNC, and Louisville. Christian is rated as the 39th ranked athlete in the Rivals.com rankings overall and the 90th ranked player in the state of Florida.
