This weekend could go a long way towards the future of the Gamecocks recruiting class. Two of our top prospects are taking a visit to Alabama. Brandon Shell, a current USC commitment, and Jadeveon Clowney will make the trip to Tuscaloosa, Alabama to take a look at what Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide have to offer.
Alabama has been the main concern for Gamecock fans when it comes to Jadeveon Clowney. They've got a lot to sell this young man with all the history, fan base, and coaching staff in place. Shell has been a long-time USC commitment and this visit has some Gamecock fans wondering whether they should be concerned if Shell is looking around.
Well the good news is that Clowney has asked Shell to join him on this trip to Alabama. Why is this good news? It's good because he asked a guy that's committed to USC to come hang out with him in Alabama. Shell will be able to spend a lot of time with him this weekend to gauge his opinions on Alabama and try and talk him into going to USC. Shell has been a strong commitment for a long time now and I think having him with Clowney this weekend will help keep USC in Clowney's ears.
USC fans shouldn't be concerned with Shell and this visit to Alabama. Obviously they are going to recruit the big offensive lineman but our coaching staff is aware of the visit and they don't seem to be concerned with Shell switching commitments at this time. He's got an opportunity to play right away at USC and our recent SEC East title and returning talent show Shell that USC is ready to compete with the big time programs of the SEC.
Alabama beat us last year on a few prospects like Manning, SC product John Fulton but I believe they will strike out this year with Clowney and Shell. USC should still be considered the favorites here. The visits will give them something to look at but the coaching staff will be able to counter very shortly and keep USC at the top.
