South Carolina managed to pull out another victory this evening in overtime over a tough Arkansas Razorbacks team 81-74. USC was limited early in this game with foul trouble for some of their younger players like Damontre Harris and Bruce Ellington. Ellington would be held scoreless in the 1st half with 0 points on 0-2 shooting. However, this game was like many others for the Gamecocks when a new name would step up and lead the charge. South Carolina got a big performance out of Ramon Galloway this evening with 19 points. He led the Gamecocks in the 1st half in scoring and finally got out of a shooting funk that had him sitting at 5 out of his last 26 shots. Sam Muldrow also stepped up big for the Gamecocks this evening with 20 points, including a big 3-pointer in overtime, and 9 rebounds and 7 blocks. It's amazing how well this team can play if it gets a big performance out of their senior leader.

USC took advantage early in the ballgame on the offensive glass. USC out-rebounded the Razorbacks early in this game to get a comfortable lead. The Razorbacks would use their inside power game of Marshawn Powell who finished the contest with 21 points. USC would manage 2nd and 3rd chances on missed shots and found ways to score. It was a big part of the early lead for the Gamecocks who entered halftime with a 35-30 lead.

The 2nd half would be a different story. Arkansas would slowly fight their way back into this game thanks to Powell and Julysses Nobels. He scored all 12 points in the 2nd half of this one and really helped Arkansas mount a comeback run on the Gamecocks. However the mighty Bruce Ellington once again showed he's the leader of this team and would bring the Gamecocks back with several clutch baskets and free throws. Ellington would finish the game with 13 points and certainly carried the Gamecocks in the 2nd half. Lakeem Jackson put in another tough performance with 13 points and 11 rebounds. This guy is an animal around the glass and is someone who's always hustling out on the floor. He gives the Gamecocks the little things they need and I bet Coach Horn loves this guy. The Gamecocks defense also stepped it up when they were down by as many as 9 in the 2nd half and Coach Horn knew when to call in the press on the Razorbacks. USC created offense off their defense and it was a key part of the comeback victory.

This is a big win for the young Carolina basketball team as they get their 3rd win in OT this season and push their SEC record to 3-1. They find themselves sitting in 1st place in the SEC East right now with the mighty Kentucky Wildcats coming to town fresh off a loss to Alabama. Can USC pull off the stunner yet again? Anything's possible with this talented team. The deep bench for Coach Horn has certainly given them plenty of chances and they finally seem to have enough players capable of competing right now. As each game goes, the experience on this team gets better and better. I'm not saying this is a team to beat in the SEC but if they keep playing like this then they'll be on plenty of people's watch list in the near future.
