South Carolina has all but wrapped up the 2011 recruiting class. Yes, we are still waiting on a certain player from Rock Hill, South Carolina to make an announcement but other than that they are set. Recruiting never takes a day off and thus it's time to start focusing on the 2012 recruits that USC is currently after already. This article is to give you a few names to watch out for in the 2012 cycle and some that you should get real familiar with real soon.
These are just a few of the names to be familiar with for 2012. There are plenty more out there that USC has already begun to recruit and offer but these seem to be the ones that I feel USC has made some inroads with already.
Shaq Roland is the two-sport star from SC that has multiple offers in both football and basketball. He's planning an early commitment so this one will need to be watched. It could come as early as the end of March or beginning of April. I'd say USC is a leader here. Jody Fuller and Quinshad Davis are both wide receiver prospects that USC looks to be the leader for right now. Fuller is from NC while Davis is from SC. The Gamecocks already have one running back commitment in Kendric Salley and he is considered one of the top 10 players in state in the early stages so far. Imani Cross and Shakeem Wharton are two RB prospects that USC will recruit and Wharton comes from Byrnes High School, where star RB Marcus Lattimore came from. Mike Davis has a name familiar to USC fans. No, it's not another Mike Davis from Columbia. Mike Davis is the younger brother of former Clemson RB James Davis. He also plays RB and it looks like Carolina is the lead group right now.
There are a few prospects from up north that USC will hope to land in 2012. Elijah Shumate, Quanzell Lambert, Kaiwan Lewis, and Drew Harris all hail from the Pennsylvania/New Jersey area. USC landed some top notch talent in Tanner McEvoy, Damiere Byrd, and Sheldon Royster from New Jersey and these connections could go a long way towards bringing in these talented prospects. They've said to be friends/former teammates so GA Mangus already has an in with these young men.
Keith Marshall, an RB from NC, is expected to be one of the top players nationally at the position. South Carolina likes Patrick Destefano and Justin Meredith from the upstate area of South Carolina. John Theus is expected to be a top OL prospect and Carolina will have their work cut out for them. He looks to be a Georgia/FSU battle with his brother signing with UGA in 2011 as a long snapper. DJ Humphries is another big time OL prospect from NC. Chris Black is expected to be the top WR in the nation from FL but will be a heavy lean towards FSU for right now. He hails from Jacksonville, which is an area kind to USC, so Steve Spurrier Jr. needs to get on this young man pronto if he hopes to have a chance to sign him.
I know it's a lot to take in right now but it sure doesn't hurt getting yourselves familiar with the names that will be strong for 2012. Each prospect has a link to their Rivals profile so be sure to check them out.
