UPDATE: Thomas Finnie has decided not to enroll early at USC. He's decided to not even attend USC in the future.

Miami offered Finnie within the last day or so and Finnie elected to switch his commitment over to Miami. This is a big blow for the Gamecocks as just yesterday he was expected to be on USC's campus this weekend with the start of classes on Monday. Finnie is a home-town kid who wanted to play for Miami but never garnered the interest from the Hurricanes until recently when new head coach Al Golden stepped in.

Miami has made some interest known in several USC commitments from the Florida area as Finnie, Mason Harris, and Jordan Montgomery have all had Coach Golden give them a call. Let's hope this is the only deflection from the USC recruiting class.

Earlier Update from 1/6:

Thomas Finnie has been cleared to enroll early at the University of South Carolina. Finnie has been a USC commitment since July 7th of 2010 and is expected to provide some immediate depth in the USC secondary. The Gamecocks had their trouble defending the pass this year and a player of Finnie's ability will certainly help bolster a once focal point of the USC defense.

Finnie is a 3-star recruit on the Rivals.com database and is currently listed as the 29th ranked defensive back overall coming out of high school. Finnie is a 5'10" 170 pounds cornerback who always seems to be around the football making plays. He also has the ability to make a big hit when needed from the CB position.

Finnie recently started to receive interest from Miami, who was just mentioned in recruiting Mason Harris earlier, but with the news of his ability to enroll early should clear up any doubt on Finnie's status with the Gamecocks.

Thomas Finnie will join Kaleb Broome, Martay Mattox, Brandon Wilds, Brison Williams, and Kelcy Quarles as January enrolls for USC. Brandon Golson was also on this list but as mentioned in an earlier update appears to be headed elsewhere for college. Academics played an issue in his USC eligibility so they most likely won't be able to count on him to enroll with Finnie and the rest of the group.
