South Carolina is down its second big man this offseason as Damontre Harris has reportedly asked for his release from the Gamecocks basketball team.
Harris has been contemplating his future at South Carolina after the firing of Darrin Horn and then the hiring of Frank Martin from Kansas State. Harris was participating in team workouts and had given all indications that he would remain at USC.
It appears that is not the case.
USC will release Harris from the team and allow him to transfer but will not allow a transfer to N.C. State. It's unknown as to why N.C. State was on the list of schools he is now released to transfer to but I'm sure more will come out on that at a later date.
Harris averaged 6.8 points per game this past season and had a team-high 71 blocks this year. Harris was a player expected to take a significant jump under the tutelage of the new coaching staff with his athleticism but it now appears that won't be the case.
Frank Martin will have to scramble to try and find some decent replacements to fill a roster for the upcoming 2012-2013 season. Tough break for the new coach of the Gamecocks.
