Welcome to the Frank Martin era at South Carolina.

Martin was officially introduced as the new men's basketball coach this morning during a press conference at the Colonial Life Arena. This is the 32nd men's coach in the program's 104 years and counting as a varsity sport.

Eric Hyman really went all out to bring Frank Martin to Columbia and this has to be considered a great hire for the AD at USC. Martin is a well-respected coach nationally and brings a passionate attitude with him to Columbia with the idea of building this program up to a national prominence. Martin talked about coming to work with Steve Spurrier, Ray Tanner and Dawn Staley. He also mentioned how he was ready for a new challenge and sees South Carolina as a place that he could win. He also spoke about the fact that Charles Barkley and Kenny Smith told him that they would "hunt him down" if he didn't take the South Carolina job.

The perception is there that this is, in fact, a great job and I think this is what attracted a top coach like Frank Martin to Columbia.

The support is in place thanks to success in football and baseball and it has enabled other sports to thrive off of what they have accomplished over the last few years. Frank Martin understands that and is thankful he has the chance to lead the Gamecocks to a new era of Carolina basketball.

Plenty of things will be answered in the coming days like who will be on his coaching staff, whether any current players decide to transfer, how will this affect recruiting and so on. This is all the small stuff. The big splash was made today when Frank Martin was made head coach at THE University of South Carolina.

I'll close with a line from Eric Hyman...

"It's a great day to be a Gamecock."
