South Carolina fans: Are you ready for Frank Martin?

All signs are pointing to the current Kansas State head coach as the future basketball coach at South Carolina. Media reports out of Columbia indicate that Martin has interviewed for the position at South Carolina this week and that the position has been offered to him. He has reportedly accepted the job and could be announced as the next head coach for the Gamecocks as early as Monday.

Martin started to become the top target for South Carolina after early third-party communications with Gregg Marshall seemingly got nowhere. Marshall was holding strong that he wanted a seven year contract deal while South Carolina seemed uncomfortable signing a deal that long. Martin's name popped up on the radar shortly afterwards and has had staying power this entire time since the firing of former coach Darrin Horn.

Frank Martin seems to fit some of the criteria that Eric Hyman was looking for when he announced the firing of Horn. Martin has sustained success at the BCS-level with Kansas State with five straight 20 win seasons in Manhattan, Kansas. Martin's five-year running record is 117-54 for a .684 winning percentage. He has guided KSU to five postseason tournament bids in five seasons with four of those in the NCAA Tournament. His conference record is 50-32 in the Big 12. He's been able to develop players that he has brought into the system and is a winner.

All the things that South Carolina is looking for in a head coach.

He's got the fire and passion to reinvigorate the South Carolina fan base that has diminished over the past few seasons. He's known as an "in your face" coach but this approach seems to work with Dawn Staley and the women's basketball program.

Darrin Horn seemed like a good hire at the time but it's obvious that it didn't work out. Hiring Frank Martin is a huge upgrade and will bring instant credibility to a program that has none. He may not make it an instant winner overnight but Martin will be able to do the things that is necessary to get the job done.

Gamecock fans should be excited.

Frank Martin would be a great hire.
