Gamecock Basketball: Gill Given Permission To Seek Transfer From South Carolina
South Carolina's Anthony Gill was granted permission on Friday to seek transfer to another college if he chooses to do so.
It was posted on this site a few days ago when the rumors of a potential request was being thrown around and it turns out that those rumors are true.
This is by no means definitive indication that Anthony Gill will transfer from South Carolina. He's just been given permission to speak with other schools about possibly enrolling at another school. He still has the option of being a member of this South Carolina basketball and new coach Frank Martin will do everything he can to convince Gill to return to Carolina.
Martin had this to say earlier today:
We're going to allow Anthony to go through the recruiting process again, and South Carolina will be involved in that,
Basically, Martin will have to recruit Gill to be a part of the new South Carolina basketball team going forward.
High hopes were placed on Anthony Gill coming into his freshman season and he showcased enough talent to think he could become a very good player for the Gamecocks soon. Gill went through struggles as most freshman do but did finish the year averaging 7.6 points per game and 4.7 rebounds in 25.3 minutes per game.
The rumor mill of potential schools includes some ACC schools from Gill's home state of North Carolina and also Virginia.
Frank Martin would be hard pressed to find a talent this late in the game to replace Anthony Gill for the 2012-2013 season so look for him to go all out in trying to show Gill that South Carolina is the place for him.
