Frank Martin has come in and turned South Carolina basketball upside down.

There has been plenty of news and notes when it comes to the roster and recruiting over the past few weeks mentioned around the net, including here on Life of a Gamecock. Let's take a look at a few more quick hits with the Gamecocks:

  • Carey Rich of 560 The Team is mentioning that Damontre Harris may want to return to South Carolina. Harris recently was granted his release from South Carolina and decided he would look at transferring from the Gamecocks. Harris has visits set up to Florida and Kansas coming up. The thing Rich mentioned was that Harris may be getting influenced from an old high school coach and is having second thoughts. He said Harris may be concerned that this transfer ordeal may have cost him a chance at returning to be a part of the new era of Gamecock basketball under Frank Martin.
  • Another bit of news from Rich was that he believes a few more players could wind up transferring before it's all said and done. I honestly expected a few players to leave USC when Horn was let go but they weren't Anthony Gill or Damontre Harris. If I had to guess on the players, I would look at a few guys like Eric Smith and Brian Richardson. It's going to be hard for those players to work in the mix with Leonard returning, Thaddeus Hall coming in the fall and Tarik Phillip running the point and able to play the two-guard position too. Don't forget South Carolina is after Willie Moore who could take time away from these two players as well.
  • South Carolina has renegotiated its contract with Western Kentucky and will not play the final two games remaining as planned. The recent firing of Darrin Horn allowed USC and Western Kentucky to back out of those final games and move on. This is probably a good thing for the Gamecocks.
I like the direction of South Carolina basketball under Frank Martin. I like the moves he has made. If he allows Damontre Harris to come back then this team just got a lot better in my opinion. Harris should take a big step forward for South Carolina if he does return and could allow guys like Minda Kacinas and Laimonas Chatkevicious to play inside and outside for the Gamecocks next year.
