The Gamecocks are looking to finalize their roster for the upcoming 2012-2013 team and Frank Martin has done a great job of adding four new players to the mix.
However, he's not finished.
USC has two more scholarships available for this upcoming season and here are a few updates on some of their final targets.
- South Carolina lost out on Sheldon Jeter when he committed to Vanderbilt on Thursday night. The Gamecocks once had a silent commitment from Jeter when Darrin Horn was here but that changed when Horn was fired. Frank Martin continued recruiting Jeter and battled Vanderbilt, Wisconsin and Penn State to the end but lost the battle to Vanderbilt. Jeter has a lot of upside and would have certainly been in the mix for playing time right away, possibly even a starting position.
- Tevin Glass will finally make his official visit to South Carolina this weekend and the possibility of a commitment is there. It just depends on how much of a push for that commitment this staff will give Glass once he makes it here for his official visit. Glass is a prospect with some academic work to do but the idea is he has a chance to qualify for this upcoming season. Memphis is in the picture here as well as Xavier. This article on AJC says he could commit on Monday. Gamecocks have to be in the driver's seat here.
- Willie Moore is currently visiting the Oregon Ducks at this moment. Oregon jumped in with an offer and Moore decided to take a visit to see what they have to offer. He has a friend headed there to play football so that could play a factor. Virginia Tech is in it but when they fired Seth Greenberg, they really fell down a few notches here. Hiring James Johnson was a good step but could be too late for Moore who is extremely close to a decision. South Carolina looked good here at one time but just get the feeling that Oregon could land a commitment on this visit.
It looked promising for the Gamecocks with these three final prospects but, as it turns out, the Gamecocks may only land one of the three and even that is a stretch. Martin did a great job a few weeks back picking up four commitments in a two-day span. Glass would be a nice prospect for this team and the extra scholarship could be used to try and convince Damontre Harris from transferring. Harris is currently visiting Florida and will travel to Kansas next. Those are two impressive basketball programs.
We may know the final look of this roster in just a few days. It seems like we've been waiting to know what was going to happen with transfers and recruiting but its drawing to a close.
Frank Martin has his work cut out for him but he'll get the job done.
