Gamecock BB: Assistant coach Brad Underwood named head coach at Stephen F. Austin
Frank Martin will be without one of his top assistants this upcoming season as Associate Head Coach Brad Underwood accepted the head coaching position at Stephen F. Austin on Tuesday.
Underwood will be the 11th head coach for Stephen F. Austin and this will be his first head coaching position in his nearly 27 years in the coaching profession. Underwood is a Kansas State graduate and spent the last several years working under Frank Martin and Bob Huggins at Kansas State before moving to Columbia to be with Coach Martin and the Gamecocks. He'll have his work cut out for him as the Lumberjacks will lose three seniors, including their top two scorers, off next year's team.
The loss of Underwood will certainly be a tough one to bear for the Gamecocks but there apparently are several candidates interested in the position already and Martin will definitely be able to attract a high-profile coach to come in and continue to revamp the Gamecock basketball program.
There's no timetable on a replacement for the position at South Carolina at this time.
