Frank Martin has added another piece to the puzzle.
Today, South Carolina landed a commitment from Hartsville point guard Jaylen Shaw.
Hartsville's Jaylen Shaw has committed to play at South Carolina..he chose South Carolina over Clemson, VT, Alabama and Tulane!!!— Carey Rich (@TheCaptain560) April 5, 2013
Shaw is a late riser and saw a lot of interest in recent weeks after helping Hartsville win a state championship and showcasing his skills in a local all-star game this past weekend. Frank Martin offered Shaw a scholarship last Thursday while Clemson followed suit over the weekend. He also picked up offers from Tulane, Virginia Tech and others in recent weeks before deciding that South Carolina was the place to be.
Shaw does a little bit of everything from the point guard position. He's a leader who can distribute the ball but also has the ability to knock down the big shot. He can score some points in a hurry and just seems like an in-state talent that will help contribute to the foundation Martin is hoping to build here at South Carolina.
This is the fifth commitment for the Gamecocks and the second, after Duane Notice, that leaves the Gamecocks with two extra scholarships on the roster for next season. The addition of Shaw likely means another current Gamecock will not be on scholarship next season.
Another great addition to the program for Frank Martin and joins in-state talents Sindarious Thornwell and Justin McKie as well as transfer Tyrone Johnson and commitments Duane Notice and Desmond Ringer as part of the new face of South Carolina basketball.
