The Gamecocks have been looking for a big man in the 2013 recruiting class to pair up with signed prospect Desmond Ringer.
South Carolina was after 2013 recruit Amida Brimah but the 6-foot-10 center prospect saw his stock rise late and held off on signing with a school. He has since announced a commitment to the University of Connecticut.
This won't stop Frank Martin from searching the globe for a big, however, and the Gamecocks are going to be taking a look at Sidy Mohamed Djitte. Djitte, a 6-foot-9, 225-pound power forward, may be the guy for South Carolina.
According to Justin Byerly, South Carolina will take a look at Djitte in person on Monday:
Wake Forest, Ohio State & South Carolina will be in tomorrow to see 6'10, 2013 Sidy Djitte of Northwood Temple (NC).— Justin Byerly (@Justinbyerly) January 14, 2013
South Carolina is in desperate need for height down low and Djitte could offer some value right away. Generally, big men his size lack the offensive skills to help in college right away but that's not the case with Djitte, Djitte has a nice touch around the basket and more than holds his own on the offensive glass. He's also tough on defense around the glass.
Djitte is one of the Top 247 players on 247sports.com and is ranked as the 57th-best power forward prospect.
While South Carolina has missed on some targets of late, this would certainly be a welcomed addition to the men's basketball team.
