Frank Martin has been at South Carolina for close to a year now but is trying to revamp the roster in a big way.
Demetrius Henry could be another piece to the puzzle for the Gamecocks as the 6-8, 215-pound power forward named a top three schools on Tuesday.
On his list are the following schools: South Carolina, South Florida and Miami.
Want to thank all the coaches that have recruited me, but I decided to cut my list to three schools. USF, UM,SOUTH CAROLINA no order— Demetrius Henry (@ptp_meat) February 5, 2013
Henry can bring a lot to the Gamecocks table which is in need a low-post scoring threat on the roster. Most big men in high school are raw when it comes to the offensive side of the ball but not Henry. The post player has the ability to shoot the ball from a variety of ranges. He can get up and down the court with his athleticism and is a solid rebounder.
The question for Henry and the Gamecocks is how could South Carolina add him to the roster based on their current numbers for next season. Teams are allowed 13 scholarship players and South Carolina will have 10 players on the roster next season on scholarship and will add the three signees in Justin McKie, Desmond Ringer and Sindarious Thornwell. There's always the possibility of some attrition and it could be something that the staff may already know about which is why they are still recruiting Henry and a few other players.
Henry is a talented post player that South Carolina desperately needs to increase the talent level on campus. If the opportunity arises to get a commitment from Henry, it's something the coaching staff should pursue.
Sometimes, as they say, the numbers always work out.
Henry is expected to make a decision sometime in April.
