South Carolina was hoping Tuesday would be a good day for the future of the basketball team.
Unfortunately, it wasn't, as 2013 forward prospect Darryl Reynolds selected Villanova over the Gamecocks and Utah on Tuesday.
Reynolds made the announcement at his old high school, Lower Merion, where he graduated in 2012 and spent the past year at a post-graduate school in Massachusetts.
It started to appear that the Gamecocks would land Reynolds based on insider information leading up to his announcement Tuesday afternoon. Reynolds named the Gamecocks his leader after an official visit last month but never updated his top schools after that. The location of Villanova had to play a factor here for Reynolds and he should be able to log early minutes with the Wildcats.
While the Gamecocks missed out on one post player, they hope good news will come Wednesday morning when 2013 forward Demetrius Henry makes his announcement. It's between South Carolina and Miami.
As they say when one door closes, another opens. For the Gamecocks sake, let's hope it's Henry.
