Four-star running back Derrell Scott has a date in mind.

That date is one that will shape his future as he plans to announce his commitment on January 27th.

Derrell Scott will announce his decision on the 27th of this month from a final group of South Carolina, Tennessee and Florida.

The Gamecocks have long been considered the frontrunner for Scott's services considering how long they've been recruiting Scott, his relationship with the coaching staff and his friendship with current Gamecock, and former high school teammate, Pharoh Cooper. However, Tennessee has made a late push and possibly put themselves out front for Scott in recent weeks and are really pushing the Gamecocks for Scott's services. They too have a close friend and former teammate in Kendal Vickers so they have a few things working in their favor as well.

A recent contender happens to be the Florida Gators. Florida offered late in the process, coming in with an offer on January 2nd, and have a dynamic recruiter in Brad Lawing in the mix. Lawing previously recruited Scott for South Carolina so they have a longstanding relationship. The Gators, though, just recently picked up a player in three-star running back Brandon Powell, who has a similar skill set to Derrell Scott.

With Florida taking Powell, does that essentially eliminate the Gators? More than likely, yes. Scott is scheduled to take an official visit to Florida this upcoming weekend. While he will likely be impressed, it seems too late for the Gators to over come the Gamecocks and Volunteers on this one.

During his recruitment, it's always been South Carolina and another team. That other team has changed places multiple times whether its Florida State, NC State, or a few others. It's hard to overlook what South Carolina has done with his recruitment and the 247sports.com Crystal Ball indicates that 92% of the predictions favor South Carolina.

The Gamecocks and Volunteers will have one final chance to impress Scott with in-home visits on the 22nd for Tennessee and the 23rd for the Gamecocks.

These visits could go a long way towards the announcement everyone has been waiting on.
