The Gamecocks are set to host a four-star defensive tackle Thursday afternoon when Lamon Gaillard stops by Columbia for South Carolina's second spring practice session of 2013.
Gaillard, a four-star recruit on 247sports Composite Index, doesn't have a listed offer from the Gamecocks but has seen his stock jump in recent weeks.
Dating back to February 23rd, Gaillard has added offers from UNC, NC State, Boston College, Florida State, Georgia, ECU and Alabama. He's a prospect that should expect more big-time offers in the future as he makes his visits to schools across the country.
In his highlights on Hudl, you can see just how strong and powerful Gaillard is in the middle of the defensive line. He's not the fastest player around, but he's got enough burst on the line to get through the gaps and get to the ball-carrier. He seems to have a knack for making a big hit and caused a few fumbles in the highlight-reel linked earlier. He's the kind of player who would be a perfect fit as a run-stopper in the middle of the defense.
With Gaillard's visit today, it's likely expected that he'll receive a firm offer from South Carolina for the 2014 class. The limited numbers in this upcoming recruiting cycle means South Carolina has to be selective with who they offer. Gaillard landing an offer from the Gamecocks means he's the real deal and could certainly be a player that USC could have staying power with in the future.
The Gamecocks are also after several other defensive tackle prospects like Poona Ford and Naquez Pringle but Gaillard definitely deserves to be in the mix with his talent level compared to those prospects.
He's certainly a name to keep an eye on going forward with South Carolina.
