On Wednesday night, the news broke that four-star wide receiver recruit Jalen Christian would commit on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at his high school.
Christian followed through with that promise and the news was good for South Carolina.
The Gamecocks have added their ninth commitment in Christian and instantly add a playmaker at the wide receiver position who had a host of offers from around the country.
I have officially committed to the University of South Carolina ✔️✔️ #gogamecocks— Jalen Christian2⃣ (@Thatblasiankidd) May 15, 2014
It's no surprise that Christian picked South Carolina this afternoon as he has long been favoring the Gamecocks over schools like Maryland, Ohio State, Tennessee, Nebraska, North Carolina and Clemson. His relationship with G.A. Mangus and Steve Spurrier Jr. certainly paid off as has the Gamecocks recent success with smaller receivers like Bruce Ellington, Ace Sanders and a few others. Christian should fit the mold of both of those receivers with elusiveness and a quick burst that should propel many long gains at the receiver position for the Gamecocks.
South Carolina was the first offer for Christian and it looks like it was the one that meant the most. The Gamecocks made Christian a priority and made him feel like part of the team. This is a win-win for the Gamecocks who will get the opportunity to add a versatile receiver to the stable and continue the strong receiver play moving forward.
