South Carolina has found themselves out front for one of the top defensive tackles in the class of 2014.

Hilton Head's Poona Ford told's Gerry Hamilton during a visit on Tuesday that South Carolina was his leader.

The Gamecocks were considered the favorite here and were once a leader before Ford backed off those statements in recent interviews. The belief was that Tennessee had recently made a jump out front for the four-star defensive tackle and that the Gamecocks had work to do to catch up.

It appears that the work has been done.

The Gamecocks will have their chance to make another big impression this weekend as Ford is expected to visit Columbia for the spring game. The 6-foot-1, 285-pound tackle prospect has a host of offers including Tennessee, Louisville, Ole Miss, Arizona and more but South Carolina and Tennessee are the two teams out front. Ford is expected to visit Tennessee next Saturday on April 20 for their spring game.

If you want to look at how good Ford is then take a look at his 2012 stats - 154 tackles with 44 tackles for loss, including 10 sacks.

There seems to be no timetable for his decision at this time and running backs coach Everette Sands is his primary recruiter.
