South Carolina is expecting a big-time running back recruit on campus this upcoming Thursday in Nick Chubb.
Chubb, an almost Georgia Bulldog commitment a month ago, recently gave South Carolina a look and came away impressed with what he saw. He's since made visits to Auburn and has been back to Georgia as well.
The 5-foot-11, 216-pound running back was expected to visit South Carolina on Monday for Memorial Day but the visit was then moved to Tuesday but instead, he'll make the trip to Columbia this Thursday according to Chad Simmons of Scout.com.
Chubb is a type of running back that would be very successful in the South Carolina backfield. He can look and see what former Gamecock Marcus Lattimore has done in order to get an idea of how he would be used in this system.
Chubb is more of a power back than a speed back and uses his toughness to his advantage. One thing to note though is his acceleration. He can hit the hole quick giving him an edge on his defenders. He won't break away tons of runs at the next level or dazzle those with shifty moves but will run over his opponent and withstand a heavy workload in college.
This is a battle between three teams who have had success at the running back position in recent years. Chubb's familiarity with Georgia gives them the big edge here but South Carolina does have a story to sell. This visit will be the last Chubb takes before making a decision so his recruitment will likely end shortly after the visit.
247sports.com's Crystal Ball Predictions show a heavy lean in favor of the Bulldogs and that will likely be the case.
However, the Gamecocks will get a chance to make the final impression and roll out the red carpet this Thursday for Nick Chubb.
We'll find out if it works soon enough.
