South Carolina was hoping to convince Quinton Powell that Columbia would be a great place to be for the next four to five years on his official visit this weekend.

They won't get the chance now.

Tuesday night, Powell made a statement on Facebook indicating that he was cancelling his remaining official visits to South Carolina, Oregon and Miami and will choose between Southern Cal and Florida.

"I've decided to cancel the rest of my visits to South Carolina, Oregon, and Miami," said Powell. "My top two are Southern Cal and Florida."

South Carolina had hoped to convince this one-time Florida commitment that he would be a nice fit at the SPUR position for the Gamecocks' defense but they will have to move on to other prospects.

It looked like at one time that South Carolina would be Powell's future home after he decommitted from Florida but apparently his visit to Southern Cal and his familiarity with Florida gave him enough to make a final decision between these two. There are also reports that a current Florida linebacker commitment may be looking around thus a spot will likely be available for Powell if he wants it.

The Gamecocks will now focus their efforts on Jonathan Walton, Skai Moore and Yannick Ngakoue. All three took their official visits to South Carolina on the weekend of January 18th and Walton is set to visit in-state school Auburn this coming weekend. Moore appears close to a decision between South Carolina and Vanderbilt while Ngakoue is likely to decide between Maryland and South Carolina.

There are still quality linebackers on the board for the Gamecocks so this shouldn't be considered a big loss for the Gamecocks as they look to close down the 2013 recruiting class.
