South Carolina plans to make wide receiver a position of priority in the 2014 recruiting class.
Vero Beach's Will Dawkins is a player that South Carolina already has their eye on as he picked up an offer from the Gamecocks on Wednesday.
Dawkins' stats listed on MaxPreps indicate that he caught 43 passes this past season for 660 yards and had six total touchdowns, including four receiving touchdowns.
The main thing that seems to stick out with Dawkins right now is his play-making ability at the wide receiver position. The speed seems legit as time after time Dawkins outruns his opponents in a race towards the end zone. His highlight-reel shows him making several catches in the short passing game, breaking a few tackles and turning up field for extra yardage. Dawkins looks fluid out on the field and has good size right now standing 6'0" tall and weighing around 200 pounds.
Dawkins is a versatile player, giving his ability to line up in the Wildcat quarterback position or line up on defense as a defensive back. But make no mistake, it appears that Dawkins could have a big future as a wide receiver at the next level.
South Carolina is his first reported offer and he should pick up more interest as he gets closer to his senior season.
