Gamecock FB Recruiting: Wesley Green becomes a Gamecock...again
Wesley Green liked South Carolina so much, he committed twice.
Green signed with the Gamecocks on Wednesday after deciding on South Carolina over Georgia for his future home.
The Gamecocks landed a commitment from Green in June of 2013. He was thought to be a much needed player at a position of need at that time and his commitment helped boost South Carolina's 2014 recruiting class forward. However, in September of 2013, Green decommitted from South Carolina and opened his options up to schools like the Gamecocks, Ole Miss, Georgia and a few others.
Schools usually don't end up gaining a commitment from the same player after they've decommitted but that's exactly what South Carolina did in this situation. Green got a visit from the Gamecocks coaching staff on the day he decommitted and that basically reassured Green that South Carolina was the place for him.
Georgia certainly made a push and Ole Miss threw their name in the mix later as well. It all seemed to boil down to the Gamecocks and Bulldogs toward the end of his recruitment. Green was scheduled to make a visit to Georgia on the final weekend before National Signing Day. That trip never materialized and most expected Green to choose South Carolina on Wednesday.
Green did just that on The New College Football Show on Fox Sports South and was the final piece to an incredible day for the Gamecocks.
South Carolina picks up another talented four-star cornerback who has the right blend of size, speed and athleticism to play right away for the Gamecocks. The depth chart is certainly there for the taking for a player like Green and he should take advantage and see the field right away.
