One of South Carolina's long time targets in the class of 2014 is finally set to announce his commitment this Saturday.
Braxton Berrios, a talented wide receiver from North Carolina, announced a final top five list of schools on Twitter the other day and plans to make his commitment public on Saturday, October 12.
The five schools in the running here for Berrios are: Kentucky, Miami, South Carolina, Oregon and Tennessee.
Berrios has already visited several of these schools in the early weeks of the college football season and has decided he's ready to make his commitment.
South Carolina has been with Berrios for a long time now during this recruiting process. The Gamecocks have worked tirelessly to be on the mind of Braxton Berrios and the connection the coaching staff has with Berrios has to be one of the best he has with any of the coaching staffs he's been involved with. The Gamecocks also have the location in their favor being the closest to current hometown, Raleigh, North Carolina.
However, what the Gamecocks don't have was the fact that they weren't the favorite growing up for Braxton Berrios. That honor goes to the Miami Hurricanes. The Hurricanes were late to offer Berrios but when that offer came, it shot them up to the top of his favorite list. He wasn't concerned of when or how he got the offer, just that he got it.
It seems like South Carolina and Miami are doing battle here for Berrios with Tennessee, Kentucky and Oregon all looking on the outside. There's plenty to like about each school so this is a tough decision that Berrios will have to make.
Whoever lands him will get a versatile player who can do it all on the football field. This tough receiver earned some big recognition over the summer when he tested in the top five of all football players at The Opening in Oregon. He also has earned an invite to the Under Armour All-American Game.
It's easy to see why he's so coveted. The decision will be announced this Saturday and if you look at the Crystal Ball predictions on 247sports.com, you'll see the experts are heavily in favor of Berrios heading to Miami. They're likely right considering how big that offer was for him personally.
Still, the Gamecocks have done a fantastic job here and won't know they are out of it until he tells them no.
We'll just have to wait and see where Berrios ends up when he announces his commitment this Saturday.
Recruiting is fun, isn't it?
