The Gamecocks added another versatile defensive line prospect to the fold when David Johnson committed to South Carolina on Thursday.

Johnson is 6'1" tall, weighing about 253 pounds and is another Georgia prospect that has committed to Gamecock defensive coordinator Lorenzo Ward. He's a former teammate of current Gamecock Joe Harris as they attended the same high school in Lithonia, Georgia.

The three-star recruit on 247sports.com and Scout.com had several offers on the table. Schools like Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, Auburn and N.C. State all had interest in Johnson before he ultimately chose the Gamecocks.

Words being thrown around for Johnson right now are "high motor" and "explosive." He has the ability to grow into a player that can be mixed between defensive end and defensive tackle. He'll need to add a few pounds at the college level but this recently worked out pretty well for Gamecocks' Melvin Ingram, who played both positions for USC.

This is the tenth commitment for the Gamecocks in the 2013 recruiting class.
