South Carolina has started this week off with a bang by landing commitment number eight for the 2013 recruiting class.

Devante Covington, a 6'4" 220 pound defensive end, has committed to South Carolina. Covington is from Rockingham, North Carolina and plays currently at Richmond Senior High School.

Covington lists offers from schools like Clemson, East Carolina, North Carolina, NC State and Tennessee. The young defensive lineman has apparently caught the eye of Brad Lawing and the rest of the Gamecocks staff and he decided to pull the trigger and commit to the Gamecocks on Monday night.

He is currently unranked on the database but finds himself with a three-star rating on the database.

Covington appears to be a solid prospect for the Gamecocks in his own right but his commitment may lock down one of his teammates for USC as well. Offensive lineman Tyrone Crowder plays for the same high school and has been a player South Carolina has been after for a while now.

Covington's commitment may bring the Gamecocks fortune in two ways.

Welcome aboard Devante Covington!
