And with one tweet, Matt Rolin is now a Gamecock.
Four-star linebacker Matt Rolin committed to South Carolina today while visiting the campus on an unofficial visit. It's long been expected that Rolin would commit to the Gamecocks and everyone had their eye on this visit as the one when it all could go done.
There are plenty of reason for Rolin to commit to South Carolina: early playing time, great relationship with the coaching staff, family connections to the school. All good reasons as to why the Gamecocks were able to land Rolin.
Initially, South Carolina offered Rolin as a tight end before coming forward with the ability for him to play linebacker if he chose to do so. It was an interesting move at first but it has worked with recent Gamecock players like Chris Culliver and Tanner McEvoy. Both of those players were recruited at different positions than what other schools were offering and it helped the Gamecocks land those two recruits.
I think when South Carolina told Rolin he could play outside linebacker, it really pushed them to the top. They had everything else he was looking for in a school. He just wanted to play linebacker and its easy to see why. Rolin is a big, fast linebacker who does well in coverage. Just what the Gamecocks need.
Rolin chose South Carolina over Virginia Tech and Florida State. He's a four-star linebacker on the 247sports.com database and he should be considered an extremely firm recruit. Look for Rolin to get to work in the recruiting trail joining commitment Devin Washington and Connor Mitch as the current headliners of the 2013 class.
Welcome aboard Matt Rolin!
