Na'Ty Rodgers just tweeted tonight that he has decided not to announce a decision this Friday at the Under Armour All-American Game. Rodgers tweeted earlier that if he couldn't have his six family members by his side for the announcement that he wouldn't do it. I'm not sure this is related or not but right now, it appears there will be no announcement Friday night.
Here's my earlier update.....
Friday could be a really great day for the South Carolina Gamecocks.
Not only are they in the running for four-star running back David Williams, who's set to announce Friday evening, they are heavily in the mix for four-star offensive lineman Na'Ty Rodgers.
Rodgers has seemed like a long-time Gamecock lean thanks to all his unofficial visits during the season - four of them - along with constantly mentioning South Carolina as a favorite in most public interviews.
However, as is with recruiting, nothing is certain. Rodgers recently narrowed his list of schools down to three - South Carolina, Maryland and Washington - and will announce a decision on Friday evening at the Under Armour All-American Bowl Game.
All pundits expect Rodgers to choose South Carolina, but the talk around town is that Maryland may be the surprise announcement for Rodgers. The Terrapins have somethings working in their favor here with the hometown team, friends heading there and a few others that certainly give them a chance. Washington may be far away from his other two finalists but Rodgers is from Washington and has some family in the state. It would be like a "coming home" for Rodgers if he were to choose the Huskies.
But really it all boils down to South Carolina and Maryland. It generally has the entire process but it's always seemed like South Carolina has had the edge the entire time. Adding a lineman like Rodgers to the current group of commitments would basically give the Gamecocks a roster full of top talent on the offensive line. It's an area that needs work, but is slowly improving, and bringing guys like Rodgers into the fold will only increase the output and give offensive line coach Shawn Elliott plenty to work with.
Rodgers has the bloodlines - his father played in college and the NFL - and has a great support system that has allowed him to make the right decision. Rodgers has yet to visit South Carolina but has seen Washington, Maryland and Oklahoma. Don't let the non-official visit scare you here. Rodgers has seen plenty of the Gamecocks and the Gamecocks have seen plenty of Rodgers.
The Under Armour game starts at 5:00 p.m. on Friday so there's a chance as you're getting home for work, there could be a new Gamecock to welcome to the family.
