The Gamecocks and Coach Darrin Horn have apparently found their man.
The name is Brenton Williams and he committed to South Carolina this afternoon after completing his official visit. Williams played only one season at Sante Fe Junior College and will have 3 years to play 3 at USC instead of the usual 2 years that most JUCO players have coming into a 4-year school. Williams averaged a little over 10 points a game for Sante Fe but did score 26 points a game as senior in high school in Florida.
Williams is said to be a very comfortable shooter. He has an outside shot capable of knocking down a 3-pointer and also has a nice leaping ability. He's a guy that can go up and throw down a powerful dunk as evidenced by this Youtube video linked below:
He definitely sounds like he can fit in with the Gamecocks style of play. He's just going to have to be ready to make an impact right away as he's needed the minute he steps on to campus here in Columbia. It's a name that seemingly came out of nowhere but Coach Horn got involved recently and it ended with Williams committing to South Carolina today.
