South Carolina just finished an impressive night beating the SC State Bulldogs 91-56. The Gamecocks got key performances from Lakeem Jackson, Brian Richardson, and Sam Muldrow. Richardson, the freshman shooting guard, had been on a cold streak coming into this game but came alive in the second half with 17 points. Lakeem Jackson showed some impressive moves underneath the basket and really helped the Gamecocks early in this game and finished with 17 points and was 4-5 from the free throw line. Muldrow provided his 3rd double-double of the season with 15 points and 11 rebounds.

The Gamecocks jumped out to an early lead but SC State clawed back into this game to make it close in the first half at the score of 22-19. South Carolina went on a 23-4 run at the end of the first half to claim a 44-22 halftime lead. They picked right up from there in the second half and there was no contest as the Gamecocks allowed some younger players like Eric Smith, RJ Slawson, and Richardson to pick up some valuable playing time.

USC will enter SEC play this weekend with a 9-4 record on the season so far. The Gamecocks first SEC opponent is the extremely tough Vanderbilt Commodores. USC will hopefully use this game against SC State as a confidence booster as the SEC will be tough once again. Florida, Vanderbilt, Kentucky, and Tennessee are all tough teams and the youth of this Carolina squad will need to grow up quick in order for Coach Horn to get the most out of this team.
