Jared Henry has been a long time USC commitment but it was apparently long enough for him.

Today he announced that he was switching his commitment from South Carolina to his local team in UCF. Central Florida finished off a fantastic season at 11-3 with a win over Georgia in the Liberty Bowl after winning the Conference USA championship. Henry made an official visit to Central Florida last weekend at the request of his mother and just finished up an official visit to South Carolina this past weekend. The announcement came shortly afterwards. Henry had been committed since July of 2010, I believe, and would have been a nice safety prospect for the Gamecocks in the future.

It's a tough loss this late in the game but the saving grace is it does open up another scholarship for a player who USC is still after. Henry seemed to think UCF was a better fit for him and it's certainly a lot closer to home so you can't begrudge a prospect for wanting to be close to family.

Good luck to Henry at UCF and let's hope the Gamecocks will find a prospect to fill that spot.
