Miami failed in it's bid to sign a quarterback in the 2011 recruiting class. New coach Al Golden made a run at Jacoby Brissett but the young man signed with Florida this morning. Hurricane fans may be in some luck though because they've got two pretty interesting names looking at transferring to their school.
Rutgers Tom Savage and Michigan's Tate Forcier are both looking at taking their talents to South Beach(yes just like LeBron.) Savage looked promising as a potential star for the Scarlet Knights a few seasons ago but in comes Chas Dodd and some struggles in 2010 led this talented QB to transfer. Rutgers hired a pro-style type offensive coordinator in Frank Cignetti but Savage wants out. Miami looks like a potential landing place and an opportunity for a fresh start.
Michigan's Forcier is also looking for that fresh start but it seems he's been through more up and downs in his young career. Forcier was hailed as a potential Heisman candidate a few years ago when he got off to a fast start for the Wolverines. Michigan would struggle and the glamor wore off. 2010 saw a switch to more up-tempo Denard Robinson and he would go on to break some Michigan and NCAA records as a running quarterback. Forcier threatened to leave during the season but nothing ever materialized. Well it didn't take long and Forcier is on the market. He's looking at Miami along with Kansas State, Arizona, Washington, and a few others. He seems talented but his Michigan career ended on a sour note with him ineligible for the Gator Bowl due to academics. A new school would do wonders for this young man and it would be interesting seeing him at a big school like Miami.
Is it possible for both players to end up at the same school? I'd have to say no. Both would be eligible at the same time and competing for playing time which is a big reason they both are leaving their former schools. I could see Forcier somewhere else but Savage could end up in Miami which would be a nice pickup for 2012 for the Hurricanes. I'm sure this won't be the last we'll hear of this situation but with college football in the dull days before spring practice we'll have to go with any news we can get.
Here's a CNNSI article on the potential transfer:
Miami which did not sign a quarterback in this recruiting class, is being considered by two quarterbacks who are transferring. Tate Forcier, who is transferring from Michigan, told ESPN on Saturday that he has narrowed his options to UM, Kansas State, Washington, Arizona and Montana. Quarterback Tom Savage, who is transferring from Rutgers, is reportedly considering UM, Florida and Arizona, among other schools. Rutgers recently reversed an earlier decision and granted him permission to speak to UM and UF.
