Roderick Byers is another big time football prospect from the Rock Hill area this year in South Carolina. Byers has been on USC's radar for a long time now along with guys like Jadeveon Clowney and the Dixon brothers. Roderick Byers is now set to announce his decision but he's decided to make one last official visit.
Byers is planning on announcing his commitment this Wednesday at his school according to reports on PalmettoSports.com. Byers appears set to make a decision between Oregon and South Carolina. Georgia Tech was once a player for Byers but the two parties decided to go in another direction so now it's down to the Gamecocks and the Ducks. Byers just finished up an official visit to Oregon on Sunday and made the trip to USC today for his official visit.
Everyone has said USC is the favorite here and I have to agree. Oregon has a lot to offer Byers and there is a national title appearance that I'm sure they just implanted in Byers mind. USC is the local team, will have plenty of players from the area that he's familiar with, and will be coming off their own championship of sorts with the SEC East division title. Byers made end up redshirting at USC and that's something he would have to be okay with but there could be a need for him at defensive tackle in the near future. He could make an impact here and trying to sell him on the opportunity for the future looks to be the major holdup. I think this decommitment from Jared Henry will afford USC a solid scholarship offer for Byers and I think he'll end up committing to USC on Wednesday after he finishes his official visit.
*UPDATE: There is a new report from Phil Kornblut at PalmettoSports.com that Byers is not on USC's campus today and that he actually has indications that he'll chose Oregon this Wednesday. It's an interesting turn of events right now for Byers but I'd still wait to see how this one plays out. Keep checking here for more as always.
