Sheldon Royster from New Jersey committed to USC Thursday evening announcing his choice shortly after 9 o'clock. The 4-star defensive back should provide some impact for the Gamecocks secondary right away at the safety position. Royster is the second prospect to commit to USC today and the 4th player in two days. His commitment brings the USC list up to 30 total committed players but 4 of those have already enrolled at USC.

Royster is the 12th ranked player at the safety position coming out of high school and finds himself ranked as the 189th overall prospect in the Rivals Top 250. Royster played at St. Peters Prep in Jersey City, New Jersey and chose the Gamecocks over offers from Rutgers, UNC, Illinois, Pittsburgh, Miami ... and a few others. He is also the 4th ranked player in the state of New Jersey overall. Royster could also get a chance to help in the return game as well. He's played a little offense during his time at St. Peters Prep but he will be on the defensive side for sure.

Royster is another nice commitment for the Gamecocks and could only help increase their chances in the future in the state of New Jersey and up north. GA Mangus and his connections have helped land Royster and McEvoy and the success of these players could help go a long way towards building a pipeline from the north to Columbia, South Carolina.

Welcome to the Gamecock Nation Sheldon Royster!
