The Gamecocks basketball season has been one of the worst in recent memory.
Things are looking dim for Darrin Horn and his future but that hasn't stopped him from building toward the future.
South Carolina received an official visit from Sheldon Jeter over the weekend and nearly landed the 6'6" player from Pennsylvania.
A little help from NBA star Dwayne Wade always helps too.
Jeter is a 2012 prospect and South Carolina can certainly use someone of his athletic ability on the roster next season. The Gamecocks only signed one prospect for the 2012 class in Tyrone Haughton and lost recruits Ian Baker and Carlos Morris who decommitted. Jeter has the ability to play small forward and shooting guard which would fit in well with Darrin Horn's system.
It looks like Jeter has his eyes set on a few schools up north like Penn State and Wisconsin but the Gamecocks put themselves in, or close to, the driver's seat this past weekend. Jeter seems to believe the Gamecocks have talent on the roster and are capable of making a run at the NCAA Tournament in the near future.
The one thing you notice about Jeter is he can do a little bit of everything. He's definitely a high-riser with great leaping ability. He also has a solid jump shot with range extending to the three-point line. He can attack the basket and finish which is an important. He also has nice ball handling skills.
This would be quick a pick-up for the Gamecocks if they are able to convince Jeter to come down south to play college basketball. USC needs all the help they can get and maybe Jeter can come in and help boost the Gamecocks roster.
He's got a few more visits planned but a decision could come soon. Darrin Horn could certainly use some good news these days.
