The Gamecocks and the Clemson Tigers are set to do battle this Thanksgiving weekend and Head Coach Steve Spurrier spoke with the media Wednesday about this weekend's matchup.

Here are some notes from Coach Spurrier and audio from today's teleconference:

  •
  • He said that Clemson enters the game at 10-1 and a very good team. He hopes South Carolina will play their best game of the year and should be a heck of a game.
  •
  • He said that the Top 10 matchup has added to the game and big for the state of South Carolina.
  •
  • Spurrier did say that USC's record speaks for itself in the three years that Jadeveon Clowney has been here. He said this summer the Gamecocks were seen nationally thanks to Clowney's hit against Michigan.
  •
  • He said that Clowney is well rested and he hopes he finish up very strongly.
  •
  • Coach Spurrier said the Clemson/USC matchup is appreciated enough. He said it's just not the biggest rivalry game this week and they understand that. He said it's two teams that have done very well the last few years. He said that both teams get enough attention from instate.
  •
  • He said that he hasn't had any good feedback for the rivalry name that Spurrier brought up on Tuesday. He said it's a huge game instate and everyone looks forward to it.
  •
  • Spurrier said Kelcy Quarles has had some big games this year. He said he's bigger than former Gamecock Melvin Ingram and he said that he reminds him of Warren Sapp. He said he's had an excellent year for the Gamecocks.
