The Gamecocks return to the field this week to take on SEC East rival, the Florida Gators, in hopes of finishing their portion of SEC play on a high note.

On Wednesday, head coach Steve Spurrier spoke to the media during his weekly teleconference to preview the upcoming clash between the Gamecocks and the Gators.

Here's some notes from Coach Spurrier along with audio of today's teleconference:

Notes:

  • -- Spurrier said USC is in really good health this time of the year compared to other teams.
  •
  • --He indicated that center Cody Waldrop would be available to play this weekend. He practiced some on Tuesday. He's been out with injury for several weeks.
  •
  • -- Spurrier said he's looking forward to the game this week.
  •
  • -- Coach Spurrier said he has a good relationship with Will Muschamp. He mentioned that Muschamp was SEC Coach of the Year last year and said that Florida could have been in national championship game if Notre Dame had lost.
  •
  • -- Even though they've had injuries this year, he says they are still a good team. He said that he's never seen quite as many injuries as Florida has gone through this year.
  •
  • -- Spurrier said last year's game could have been closer if the Gamecocks didn't have those mistakes. He hopes it won't happen again this week, or any weeks, and said USC has been fortunate in taking care of the ball most the season. He said turnovers are very important.
  •
  • -- Coach said it's just "our team against their team" when asked if it was weird playing his alma mater Florida. He said it should be a heck of a game.
  •
  • -- Spurrier mentioned he has three players who were at one time committed to Florida but said sometimes things happen in recruiting. He said we don't talk about things like that.
  •
  • -- Spurrier said Mike Davis needs to make a bunch of yards to help USC beat Florida on Saturday. He said we need to "mix it up and take care of the ball" and that he's an excellent back who has had a great year.
  •
  • -- Coach Spurrier said Mike hasn't carried the ball quite as much as Marcus Lattimore did in 2010 but he's had a lot of carries and had some long runs. "Mike's doing well. He should be ready to go. He's had a banged up shoulder but hopefully that won't bother him this week," according to Coach Spurrier.
