South Carolina is currently 2-1 on the season coming off of their first SEC win of the year against Vanderbilt. This week, the Gamecocks will take the week off with their first of two bye weeks in the 2013 season.
Here's a look at some news and notes from Monday in today's The Garnet Buzz:
- South Carolina and Central Florida will face off against each other on September 28th. Today, the SEC announced that the game will be at 12:00 that day and will be televised on either ESPN, ABC, or ESPNU. Central Florida is currently undefeated at 3-0 coming off a huge upset win over Penn State in Napa Valley. The Knights have a bye week this week just like South Carolina and will be more than prepared to face off against South Carolina on September 28th. South Carolina will need to be focused in hopes of slowing down an offense averaging 36.67 points per game.
- South Carolina redshirt freshman Clayton Stadnik was named the SEC's Offensive Lineman of the Week. Stadnik, filling in for the injured Cody Waldrop for the second straight game, graded out at 82-percent against Vanderbilt and played all 87 snaps on offense for South Carolina. Stadnik and the rest of the offensive line did not allow a sack all game against Vanderbilt this past Saturday. He's done a commendable job filling in for Waldrop, who was the unquestioned starter at center all spring and fall camp in his effort to replace T.J. Johnson.
- Defensive end Jadeveon Clowney said he will have surgery on his foot after the season to relieve the bone spurs that cause him severe pain from playing on his injured foot. It's not bad enough for Clowney to stop playing as he's had this issue since high school. However, with him the likely number one pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, it'll be wise to get this issue corrected before taking a step to the next level.
- Right now, ESPN.com has its Week Three projections for SEC teams in bowl games and they have South Carolina listed as the SEC representative in the Outback Bowl. I'd imagine Gamecock fans won't be excited about that destination and will hope for a better opportunity.
