South Carolina landed a big basketball recruit today.

Literally.

Tyrone Haughton committed to Coach Darrin Horn and the Gamecocks this afternoon after receiving interest from schools like Miami, Virginia Tech, and Alabama. Haughton stands 6-feet-8-inches tall and weighs about 205 pounds.

He's a low post presence that should help immediately on the glass with his rebounding skills and also should be another solid shot-blocker for the Gamecocks. He has a nice jump hook and a decent mid-range jumper. He's lean and athletic like most of Horn's favorite big men so he'll fit in nicely with the rest of the Gamecocks. When Haughton enrolls on campus next season, he'll be the fifth player the Gamecocks have that stands 6-feet-8-inches tall or higher. This is a lot of height for the Gamecocks in the future.

Haughton became the Gamecocks main focus after local product Brice Johnson decided to move on and commit to a school out of state. Haughton is a very nice consolation prize and will be someone that Coach Horn will be able to mold at South Carolina.

Haughton joins Ian Baker and Carlos Morris as the Gamecock recruits for 2012.
