The Gamecocks are trying their best to fill the role of Bruce Ellington right now. We've mentioned a few names here already that USC has been in touch with and offered and now we've got a former recruit from an SEC rival who is interested in USC after being released from his letter of intent.

Kevin Ware signed with Tennessee to become a part of the 2011-2012 Volunteers basketball program. Obviously things have since changed with Bruce Pearl no longer the head coach and now Ware has opened up his options. He's currently interested in USC and several other schools and is planning on going through the recruiting process once again to find a new home.

Here's the PalmettoSports.com report on Ware:

USC on Ware's short list

By Phil Kornblut

Former Tennessee signee 6-4 Kevin Ware of Conyers, GA has USC on the short list of schools he is now considering according to Jerry Meyer of Rivals.com. The rest of the list is made up of UCLA, Louisville, Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, Central Florida, Georgetown and Virginia. Ware plans to spend some time studying the rosters of these programs and will beging to meet with coaches in the middle of April Ware was granted his release from Tennessee after Bruce Pearl was fired.

Ware is ranked #56 in the overall recruit rankings on Rivals.com and is currently the #14 in the shooting guard rankings overall. He's an exceptional prospect and one that is rare at this stage in the game when it comes to recruiting. Georgia could be one to watch right now for Ware since it's his home state school. This would be a tough pull for the Gamecocks so don't get your hopes up just yet. We just wanted you to be aware of another prospect Coach Horn is working to land in hopes of filling an open scholarship for 2011-2012.
